Name counts are distinct within each role, and roles overlap; they should not be added together. They count neither people nor observed full names. Most other-given-name candidates use general given-name proxies. Scripts indicate presence, not complete language coverage.
How we bring it together
We normalize source spellings and weigh compatible evidence to rank possible names. Published counts guide frequency; spelling lists add names without inventing counts.
Births, resident snapshots and regional samples stay separate, overlapping releases aren't added together, and missing or suppressed values remain unknown. Age hints use partial birth-year data.
Full-name combinations are inferred, and coverage varies. Country associations don't establish origin or ethnicity; real-world name-identification accuracy hasn't been established.
Broader count sources support given-name rankings in 24 countries/regions and surname rankings in 15. Regional proxies are included; other coverage may be limited or spelling-only.
Coverage describes our collection, not everyone who lives there. Dates below belong to each source; they do not imply uninterrupted coverage.
